2001 Pilgrimage to Walsingham SVP Raffle The winner of the Polar Bear in the December SVP Raffle has kindly donated it back to the SVP to be raffled again later in 2001. Two other prizes have not yet been claimed: BUFF 350 Blue Nun; BUFF 115 Lambrusco ST BLAISE does not have a well documented history, and some may say he is one who has been fictionalised. He is believed to have been the son of wealthy Christians in the 4th century, and was made bishop, though very young, of Sebaste in Armenia. During his persecution by Emperor Licinius he is said to have hid in a cave. His reputation grew for blessing sick animals until a woman brought her son who had a fish-bone stuck in his throat and was near death. Blaise healed him. This woman later brought him food and candles when he was imprisoned. At the blessing of St Blaise which some parishioners will remember and is still practised in some places, people with illnesses relating to their throat are blessed by the application of two crossed candles at the throat. Death came as torture by being torn by wool-combs and then beheaded. Church Cleaners
