WELCOME RONNIE !
This week Fr Ronnie will be familiarising himself with Leigh Hospital, St Mary's, St Gabriel's and Sacred Heart Schools, and settling into the house. His weekday Mass schedule will be as follows :
Monday St Gabriel's
Tuesday St Richard's
Wednesday Sacred Heart
Friday St Mary's
Sat St Richard's am or Sacred Heart pm or St Gabriel's pm
The Archbishop encourages and leads by example by not celebrating Mass on his day off but enjoys being in the congregation. This allows him to have a proper day off. It is important that priests under 5 years ordination are allowed to develop a pattern of priesthood that is different to the past and allows for the future. His varied schedule during the week will be tiring and his day off will allow time for recharging his batteries.
MY weekday Mass schedule (NB you can't teach an old dog new tricks) will be :
Sacred Heart : Monday, Tuesday, Friday
St Richard's : Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 1 P 2 P

Meeting in Liverpool Next Saturday
Father Ronnie and myself will both be attending an in-service training day in Liverpool. The study day begins at 9.30 am and ends at 4.00 pm. Please note there will be no Mass at St Richard's on Saturday morning or Confessions in either parish on this Saturday.

Pilgrimage to Walsingham 2001
Thank you
to Pauline and John Hankinson and those who helped in the logistics of moving 82 pilgrims efficiently and smoothly during this year's pilgrimage to Walsingham. As usual all the preparations ensured everyone's needs were attended to, quietly and efficiently. The weather was extremely good and I hope all who went were uplifted by their time away. Shortly we will be putting up the lists for next year's pilgrimage that will take place 27th - 30th May.

LAST MINUTE NEWS : a meeting for the youth who are going to Sandymount on Retreat next weekend is to be held in the Parish House at 6.30 pm on Tuesday 4th September.

Funny Money
Due to the introduction of the 'Euro' in Europe in February next year the currencies in Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Belgium etc will no longer be legal tender. If you have any of the above currencies or those countries changing to the Euro currency we would be delighted to lighten your pockets and clear out your drawers. Mr Alf Case, a currency fiend, will exchange the money for pounds, shillings and pence (??) for HCPT The Pilgrimage Trust. This is a charity that takes children to Lourdes at Easter. Please place any coins or notes in an envelope marked 'Funny Money' and put on the collection plate. Let our Alf go laughing all the way to the bank!

Key Idea
We get no 'Brownie Points' from God for looking after those who are alright. We get no praise for helping those who might be in a position to help us in return. We get big 'Brownie Points' from God for taking an interest in those who are not in a position to return the compliment or the help. Exploring Gospel Values What was Jesus getting his host and the other people at table to think about? Why will God bless those who let other people, apart from their friends, into their circle? Exploring Gospel Values Who are the people in your life who might need a helping hand today, tomorrow, or the next day ? For example:
someone who is upset
someone who is disappointed
someone who feels let down
someone who is worried
someone who is anxious
someone who feels afraid
your helping hand is a power you have with you always
Call to Faith
We are called to be generous, to reach out, to be open and not to expect anything in return. It is Jesus' way. If we have a sense of community care towards others, we will truly be blessed by God.
